The Great Start Lapeer Playgroups are for parents interested in keeping a closer eye on their
children's development. During the 8 week session, we'll review areas of typical early childhood development. In
our playgroup, we combine about 45 minutes of structured activites with about 45 minutes of freeplay. We begin with circletime
music that promotes gross motor, speech and imagination play. Next we move a craft that will encourage creativity
for the older child, or a fun sensory experience for the younger child. Parents/caregivers take turns bringing a snack that
we share. Even eating our snack together will provide fine motor and experience with trying new foods. Because everyone needs
time to play, we provide an assortment of toys for free play time. Since kids learn from each other, it's important
to give them room to explore new social situations with their parents/caregivers nearby to nuture these new relationships.
Parents and caregivers deserve some play time too. Adults can relax with a cup of coffee/tea and make some friends of their
own.
